9/28/2009 - Orlando, FL - The following letter was provided by US Congressman Alan Grayson to Come Out With Pride 2009:
Dear 'Come Out With Pride 2009' Visitors, Guests, and Orlando Residents;
I would like to personally extend a warm welcome to all those visiting our fine city of Orlando to attend this year's fifth annual Come Out With Pride celebration!
Today, October 11th, we celebrate National Coming Out Day - an important day both nationally and internationally to promote awareness, education and meaningful discussion of the issues important to the LGBT community.
As a resident of Orlando, I am a proud supporter of this year's Come Out With Pride celebration, and as a Member of Congress please know that I am actively working on your behalf.
Just this year, the House of Representatives passed, with my outspoken support, H.R. 1913, the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009, providing much needed protections to those who have been a vicitm of a hate crime due to their gender or sexual orientation. Additionally, I am currently a cosponsor and strong supporter of H.R. 1283, the Military Readiness and Enhancement Act of 2009, which will finally overturn the antiquated "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy of America's Armed Forces. I am also a cosponsor of H.R. 3017, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2009, which will prohibit discrimination against employees on the basis of sexual orientation, and gender identity.
Please know that I will continue to support the LGBT community throughout my time in Congress, and this October 11th enjoy our beautiful community and everything that it has to offer by making yourselves at home here in Orlando!
Sincerely,
Alan Grayson
Member of Congress, 8th District
